Short answer: the best solar quote is the one designed around your loads, runtime, property, supply, roof and expansion plans—not the one with the biggest inverter or the lowest equipment price. To get a useful quote, send enough information for the supplier to model both power (kW) and energy (kWh).
What Whitehouse needs to build your personalised quote
| Information | Why we ask for it |
|---|---|
| Property location | Delivery, solar resource, municipal/Eskom requirements and site logistics |
| Home / guest house / shop / factory | Different load profiles and business-continuity priorities |
| Single- or three-phase supply | Affects inverter architecture and DB design |
| Monthly electricity usage / bills | Provides energy context, not final inverter size |
| Essential appliance list | Defines what must stay on during outages |
| Appliance wattages / nameplates | Improves load and surge calculation |
| Required backup hours | Determines storage requirement |
| Roof photos and orientation | Helps assess PV space and shading |
| DB and meter photos | Shows existing distribution and supply arrangement |
| Existing inverter/battery/generator | Prevents incompatible duplication |
| Budget range | Lets us design the strongest solution inside real constraints |
| Future plans | Allows panels, batteries and inverter platform to grow sensibly |
Why two customers with the same budget can need different systems
A guest house with many geysers, laundry and refrigeration has a very different profile from a family home with mostly evening loads. A workshop with motors has different starting-current demands from an office with computers and Wi-Fi. The correct quote needs to reflect those differences.
How to compare two solar quotes properly
Do not compare only “5kW inverter + battery.” Compare at least:
- Exact inverter model and PV limits.
- Exact battery model, usable energy and warranty.
- Number, wattage and model of panels.
- PV mounting system.
- DC and AC surge protection.
- Battery fuse and disconnector.
- Cable sizes and approximate run lengths.
- Essential-load DB work.
- Monitoring/CT equipment.
- Labelling, testing and commissioning.
- CoC and SSEG/municipal support where applicable.
- Delivery and lifting/offloading requirements.
- What is explicitly excluded.
Why Whitehouse may recommend products not listed online
Our online store is a retail catalogue, not a complete project-engineering inventory. We source systems around the client brief where a project needs a different inverter size, battery format, commercial configuration or balance-of-system component. That allows the quote to follow the requirement instead of forcing the requirement to fit whatever happens to be listed online.
Our project experience and approach
Whitehouse has experience assisting tailored home, guest-house and business backup/solar projects, including guest-house requirements around Secunda and Ermelo and projects extending into the East Rand and wider Gauteng. The same planning principles apply whether the goal is a small essential-load system, partial solar independence or a much larger off-grid/commercial solution: understand the loads first, then build the system around them.
Nationwide quoting and delivery
We can arrange tailored quotations and project deliveries to areas including Secunda, Ermelo, Mpumalanga, Mbombela/Nelspruit, Johannesburg, the East Rand, Pretoria, North West and Bloemfontein, as well as other South African locations. Batteries and panels may require dedicated or specialised freight depending on the route and handling.
What makes a strong quote request?
A message such as “I want a 5kW solar system” gives us very little design information. A message such as “I need my fridge, two freezers, Wi-Fi, TV, lights and office equipment to run for six hours; I use 600kWh per month and want to add a geyser later” gives us a useful starting point.
If you want a reference point before requesting a tailored system, current Whitehouse examples include the Luxpower SNA5000 + Shoto 5.12kWh kit, Luxpower SNA6000 + Volta 5.12kWh kit and Deye 8kW Hybrid Inverter. These are starting points, not universal recommendations.
FAQ
Can I request a quote even if I do not know what size system I need?
Yes—that is exactly when a load-based quote is valuable.
Can Whitehouse source equipment not shown online?
Yes, where the project requires products or system sizes outside the live retail catalogue, sourcing can be done around the project brief.
Can the quote be phased?
Yes. A good design can start with inverter/battery backup and allow planned solar or battery expansion later.
Get a tailored Whitehouse solar or backup-power quote
Whitehouse Lighting & Electrical can help you build a solution around your actual loads, budget, property and expansion plans. We do not rely only on the products shown online; where a project needs a different inverter size, battery bank, protection arrangement or commercial configuration, we can source around the brief.
We arrange solar and backup-power solutions for homes and businesses across South Africa, including Secunda, Ermelo, Mpumalanga, Mbombela/Nelspruit, Johannesburg, the East Rand, Pretoria, North West and Bloemfontein. Panels, batteries and other bulky equipment may need a dedicated delivery quotation depending on route and handling.
Important: this guide is for planning and buying decisions. Cable sizes, protection ratings, earthing, DB alterations, PV strings and final system settings must be confirmed for the actual installation by appropriately qualified persons and the relevant manufacturer documentation.
